Notes on OCR and ScanDrop Mac

ScanDrop uses the OCR (optical character recognition) that comes with the cloud provider that you are scanning to. In other words, if you scan to Evernote and are a Evernote Premium use, you'll get text searchable PDFs created by Evernote's amazing OCR! Here is more information on the OCR that comes with each of the online accounts. Please note that OfficeDrop is not responsible for the quality of OCR you get from your online storage provider! You are paying them for this, not us!

OfficeDrop - If you are storing your Scans in OfficeDrop's award winning cloud filing system then you get PDFs for any size scan up to 1 GB in size! When stored in the OfficeDrop system, the documents is made text searchable. Note that OfficeDrop's OCR is very accurate for typed text over 8 points in size, but is only OK for hand written text.

Evernote - If you are an Evernote Premium users you get amazing OCR for both typed text and handwritten text. Note that Evernote does not provide OCR for PDF's unless you are a premium user.

Google Docs - Now you can use Google's OCR; check the OCR box in ScanDrop when you are uploading to Google Docs. Note that Google's OCR is very very limited. Google limits the amount of data that it will accept during the OCR process and rejects documents that are more than 2 mb in size if you have opted for Google’s OCR – this is usually one or two pages. Google’s OCR happens at the time of upload and will increase the amount of time required to upload the document. Also, Google creates a text box associated with the PDF and does not embed the text into the PDF. This is just the way Google does it; ScanDrop has no control over how Google operates, maybe you as a customer can call them and get them to improve their service.

Dropbox - Dropbox does not provide OCR at this time and your PDFs will not be made text searchable by Dropbox.

Local Mac Drive - There is no OCR if you scan to your Mac's local drive.
